Q: What Types of Events does Theatre Row host?
A: We primarily host Plays, Musicals, Workshops, Industry Presentations of New Work, Student Showcases, Rehearsals, and Stand-Up Comedy. Theatre Row is also a great location for film shoots, corporate workshops, podcast tapings, and more! Fill out our rentals request form if you’re curious about hosting your event at Theatre Row.
Q: Can Theatre Row Produce my project, or partner with me on a co-production?
A: Theatre Row provides an affordable home for producers to present their projects, but we do not produce or co-produce work.
Q: When is Theatre Row open?
A: The building hours are 9:30am – 11:00pm. We are open every day except for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Eve, and New Years Day. Our box office is open to the public Tuesday through Sunday from 2:00pm – 6:00pm. Theatre Row is closed on Mondays, and there is no theatre access for producers except for production load-ins. Rehearsal Studios remain open on Mondays.
Q: How do ticket sales work at Theatre Row?
A: Theatre Row provides a full service box office that all productions at Theatre Row must utilize. For Ticketed events, Theatre Row will pay out the balance of the ticket sales to the producer after every performance week.
Q: What personnel support does Theatre Row provide?
A: Theatre Row provides a full box office staff, a building front of house team, and a production representative to troubleshoot any in-house equipment. All show personnel (production and stage managers, designers, programmers, deck crew, board operators, ushers, etc.) are the responsibility of the renter. There is no in-house technical crew provided. Producers are free to utilize either Union or Non-Union labor for their cast and production teams.
Q: Does Theatre Row provide any lighting or sound equipment for my rental?
A: Our theatres are a blank slate for your event! We have house lighting and sound packages that we can rent for an additional fee, or you can bring in your own equipment. We occasionally keep one theatre equipped with a standard light and sound plot to accommodate short-term rentals. Theatre Row also has a 6000 lumen projector available to rent.
Q: Do the Theatres come equipped with Pianos?
A: Only the Studio Theatre is equipped with a piano, but a weighted keyboard can be rented for use in Theatres 1 through 5. Pianos are also available for use in our rehearsal studios.
Q: I’m hosting an industry reading. Can I host a reception afterwards?
A: Our 2nd floor lounge is an excellent place to host your post-show reception and can be rented for an additional fee, pending availability. Our food and beverage partner, Sweet Hospitality, can also provide catering services for an additional fee if necessary.
Q: I only need to rent space for a few hours. Can Theatre Row accommodate this?
A: Hourly Rentals are encouraged in our Rehearsal Studios. Theatres are rented for a minimum of one day.
Q: Do I need insurance to rent at Theatre Row?
A: Producers renting Theatres are required to obtain general liability insurance and provide proof of a workers’ compensation policy (if required by New York State). The Rehearsal Studios do not require proof of insurance.
Q: Do the theatres have fly space?
A: None of the Theatres are equipped with fly space or a fly system.
Q: What marketing support does Theatre Row provide?
A: For theatre rentals of more than one-week, Theatre Row will provide a show description and ticketing link in our monthly newsletter to patrons. We also provide the opportunity to purchase a dedicated e-blast to our list of patrons. Poster slots on 42nd street are also included with rentals in Theatres 1 through 5, and poster slots are also available outside each individual theatre. For all ticketed productions, TR provides a digital signage opportunity in our box office lobby and exposure on our website.
