NuWorks 2022

Pan Asian Repertory presents our annual festival of new work by Asian-American artists.

A series of experimental new work by Asian-American artists, NUWORKS 2022 features a range of diverse voices across a variety of artistic mediums. Performances are divided into Programs A, B, and C, followed by an Encore on the final date. 

Pan Asian Repertory is New York’s first Asian-American theatre, creating opportunities for Asian-American theater artists since 1977.

PROGRAM A: 
 
HIGHLIGHTER GIRL by Amy Pan
When Emily’s English 101 assignment calls for her to create a superhero, she discovers commonality with her creative younger sister in exploring the paradoxes of the Asian-American experience. 
 
PLEASED by Mandarin Wu & Da Xu
A montage of memories and dreams and nightmares all smeared together featuring an experimental vaudeville song-and-dance solo.
 
PROGRAM B: 
 
BAUDELAIRE: DEAR MOTHER by Ernest Abuba & Shigeko Sara Suga
Based on the poems of 19th-century French poet Charles Baudelaire (Spleen / La Mort), this piece embodies the last of a trilogy. 
 
EXPECT-ASIAN by Jeffrey Han
Expect-Asian centers on a young Asian-American named Jack and his quest to find his identity amidst his father’s standards and acceptance by his peers.
 
PROGRAM C: 
 
FIVE STAR FIRST DATE by Saiya Floyd
Two gig workers show up at a date expecting to vet potential romantic partners for their employers. When sparks fly, will they have time to get their job done and explore their growing connection?
 
I ❤️ MY AAPI GRANDPARENTS by Sean-Joseph Choo
A celebration of identity, the performing arts, and ‘ohana.

Vaccination Requirements:

All patrons 5 & older must be fully vaccinated 14 days prior to their performance date. Proof of vaccination must be accompanied by a valid photo ID (valid ID for ages 5-18 do not need to include a photo).  

Once a child turns 5, they will have up to 45 days from their date of birth to be fully vaccinated.
