Don't miss out on the FIRST play to focus on the NY trial of Lenny Bruce and his FIRST amendment rights.
The time was 1964. The place, New York City. Lenny Bruce, the comedic icon, was facing obscenity charges. The same Lenny Bruce who became a major character in the hit series "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel". The same Lenny Bruce who was referenced by Jimmy Kimmel when he was temporarily taken off the air, former White House Chief of staff under President Obama, Rahm Emanuel and the NY Times.
Herbert S. Ruhe, former CIA agent and witness for the prosecution, said right after the trial: "We picked him out of all the performers. I know he was obscene...Yet, in a way, I felt he had to be convicted."
Over sixty years later our right to free reach is more threatened than over.
When our right to speak is put on trial our response is;
Don't WATCH What You Say. WATCH great theatre!
Each week selected shows are followed by legendary lawyer Marty Garbus and Lenny Bruce's lawyer on the NY trial; Susan Herman, former President of the ACLU; and LISA LAMPANELLI, famed stand-up comedian, who has stood up for civil liberties
for decades.
There's a lot to talk about. Don't miss out! For schedule of shows with celebrity Q & As email or call us. See below.
The People Versus Lenny Bruce is part of a trilogy, based on the cases of Marty Garbus. The other two plays are: Last Chance Cafe, which deals with voter suppression; and Unlucky Gal/The Story of Jane Doe, which deals with sexual abuse. All three plays could not be more timely.
